Man, I thought the opening title sequence for the movie was overlong and boring. But the behind-the-scenes feature on the DVD tops even that.
The film, overall, is just aggressively mediocre. I should have stopped with the the first one.

The third one is even more horrible.
That’s what I’ve read. Which is disappointing, because the first was actually a lot of fun.
I liked the first one, but did not necessarily think that it justified a sequel, much less a franchise. See also: Ginger Snaps
I’ve worried about watching the Ginger Snaps sequel and prequel (?) for that very reason.
Then again, I wouldn’t have thought that Tremors really merited a sequel or franchise either, and I actually enjoyed the second two movies more than the first. (I’ve heard bad things about the fourth one, though.)
Honestly, I didn’t think Cube 2 was a terrible film, just awfully tedious after awhile.
I should note here that you and I are in the same boat: I also have been avoiding the Ginger Snaps sequel and prequel (?) for fear that they will dilute my enjoyment of the original. But it’s possible that they are just fine.
The fourth Tremors is awesome! It’s a period piece. Michael Gross is in it. It’s very rewarding for dedicated fans of the series.
The fourth movie is definitely a worthy inclusion in the series.
I’ll probably still end up renting both the fourth Tremors and second Ginger Snaps movies. I’m just saying: I’ve heard mixed to bad things.
I probably won’t end up renting the third Cube movie.
