I created a MySpace page the other day to help promote Kaleidotrope, maybe generate some word-of-mouth and submissions for my second issue, coming in April.
Man, MySpace really sort of sucks, doesn’t it?

Myspace DOES kind of suck but from what I hear it’s really good for promoting your music, band, or twice-yearly print zine of writing and art..
Good job on Kaleidotrope BTW.
Sucks like a fox! Actually, kind of is putting it nicely. I don’t feel that I’ve been having a whole lot of luck using it to promote my website, but maybe I’m just not using it right. I’d be interested to hear how (and what) you do with it.
You may want to fill in the interests section of your profile with apppropriate authors and the like to attract the sort of folks who might be interested.
That’s a good suggestion.
I don’t think there’s much I can do with it, but it’s there, for whatever that’s worth.
I’m genuinely amazed at how sucky MySpace is — and, therefore, with how popular it’s become. I mean, YouTube, for instance, is probably more popular than it deserves to be — there’s nothing particularly elegant about how it looks or what you can do with it, and there are many other options — but it does do some things extremely well.
MySpace doesn’t seem to be doing much of anything well, except offering up error messages. And it’s no great shakes design-wise either, at least from where I’m sitting.
I had much better, and much more immediate, success with some Livejournal groups.
