Bill — in this case, a major budget-cutting measure that will affect millions of Americans — became a law because it was “certified” by the leaders of the House and Senate.

I mean, sure, continuing to let things like this slide pretty much make the a de facto monarch — and he’s a particularly bumbling one at that — but we’ve given this whole checks-and-balances, representative-democracy thing the old college try. Maybe it’s time to shake things up a little.
