On over-long award shows like the Emmys, Mark Evanier writes:
What do you want them to cut? The entertainment interludes? That would be like PBS cancelling the show you want to watch but retaining the pledge breaks…or something like that.
Has he seen PBS recently?
Still, he’s got a point. I don’t usually watch the Emmys, but I saw more of this Oscar ceremony than I expected to. And, with rare exception, it was hard to point at any one specific thing they should have cut. Short of scrapping the show altogether — which isn’t going to happen — the best option seems to be fast-forwarding through the boring parts like Evanier and just watching the little bits you want.
I’ve occasionally heard Dane Cook, one of the stars of “Good Luck Chuck,” described as a comedian. I find this confusing, since my understanding is that comedians are people who say and do things that are funny. Perhaps Mr. Cook is some new kind of conceptual satirist whose shtick is to behave in the manner of a person attempting to be funny without actually being, you know, funny. Or maybe he answered an ad in the back of a magazine and sent away for a mail-order license to practice comedy.
Roger Ebert will go as far as “potentially likable.”

You know what would be nice? If Livejournal had friends-only rss feeds. I can subscribe to a friend’s journal, but I can’t read the entries they’ve marked as friends-only unless I visit the LJ site. Which sort of defeats the purpose of subscribing through an aggregator.
Or am I missing something? Is there a way to subscribe to all the entries?
