To the (I’m guessing here) expectant parent who came to my site in search of “baby names with fred”, I apologize that this is what you found. You’ll probably want to avoid at all costs the baby names that are actually suggested in the sketch.

To the people who came here looking for “nose pick”, “jennifer lopez’s favorite instrument”, “skewered breasts”, “moldy banana”, “expired inspection sticker excuse ideas”, and those damn nude photographs of Steve Guttenberg (which are not here)…well you folks pretty much deserve whatever it is you found.

Over at CNN.com, there’s a poll asking: “Is the Berg killing a reason for withholding any remaining Iraq prisoner abuse pictures?”

The rationale being, I guess, that if we do release the remaining pictures, it may give terrorists the incentive to kill more Americans. That we maybe shouldn’t release those pictures because, hey, what the terrorists (and innocent Iraqis) don’t know won’t hurt them — and, by extension, won’t hurt us.

Which seems like a pretty spurious argument to make. Yes, the execution of Nick Berg was a horrific and indefensible act. But it doesn’t excuse the horrific and equally indefensible acts committed by U.S. troops in Abu Ghraib prison, and if evidence of further abuse at the prison (or elsewhere) exists, it should be made public and those responsible should be held accountable. You don’t avoid retalliation for the abuse by covering it up. You avoid it by making damn sure it never happens again.

So I voted no.
