What are they not telling us?

HARRISBURG: Governor Edward G. Rendell’s press conference to announce the Penn a Phrase for Pennsylvania contest winner, originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at 12:30 p.m. at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, has been postponed.

Maybe I should send the Governor a copy of the list I compiled. Then again, maybe not.

Last night, I went to a newspaper layout meeting. I spent about two and a half hours learning that I pretty much already know how to use Adobe PageMaker, since I know how to use Quark XPress, and they’re largely identical. I also learned that, since most of the section editors are doing their own layout, and the newspaper has something like four or five interns this semester, they probably won’t need any additional help. I did learn about the existence of keychain memory cards and (later, over the phone, from my father) of thumb drives, neither which I think I knew existed. But otherwise the evening was pretty much a wash.

Document A is 42 pages. Document B is 56 pages. Somehow, I’m supposed to incorporate both into Document C, adding no more than 2 pages for each, thereby condensing some 98 pages into a couple of quick paragraphs — while at the same time having no idea which sections are more or less relevant than others or which sections I can or should not cut.

I’m really fighting the urge to break something.
