  1. I couldn’t get by his ‘big fat books without pictures’ line. Hasn’t he heard that graphic fiction is respected now?

    The debate will never end. As long as the books remain vaguely popular, people will always demonize them.

    I will willingly retreat in infantillization, thank you very much. Especially if it means I don’t have to become a tight-assed jerk with a chip on my shoulder.

    Harry Potter has been marvelous for the independent bookstore I frequent. Huge line for the release, great seller. This has been true for other booksellers I know, as well. See? I can support my argument with an unsupported anecdote, too.

    Glah.

  2. I’ll buy his argument that Rowling is maybe not the best of stylists, and the woman does love herself some adverbs. (My own pet peeve, “darkly,” maybe chief among them.) But the rest of it is ill-informed and elitist.

    I have a copy on pre-order, and I’m looking forward to reading it.
