I’ve got to say, you’ve done mighty poorly with these the past couple of weeks (answers here and here). Hopefully this week will be better. As always, good luck!

* Yup, the electricity went out last night. And, if my failing to get the answering machine when I call home is any indication, it’s still out. I feel worst of all for our dog, who can’t be too comfortable without the air conditioning in this heat.

Ah, Dick “I am the law!” Cheney:

The Oversight Committee has learned that over the objections of the National Archives, Vice President Cheney exempted his office from the presidential order that establishes government-wide procedures for safeguarding classified national security information. The Vice President asserts that his office is not an “entity within the executive branch.”

Oh, if only he wasn’t part of any branch of government.

I’m watching this commercial for Subway’s new “overstuffed subs,” and I’m convinced it must be some kind of parody, maybe a public service announcement against over-eating. Because they’re just ridiculously big. They don’t even look like real food. (Which, I guess, this being Subway, you could maybe argue they’re not.) I can’t find anything about them on Subway’s website, but the commercial seems legit.

Here we are again, with a song in our hearts:

  1. “Spring Haze” by Tori Amos
And it bleeds into where you resist
  2. “Chiron Beta Prime” by Jonathan Coulton
You may recall we had some trouble last year
  3. “Standing in the Way of Control” by the Gossip
And it’s hard to face the truth when you think you’re dying
  4. “Little Earthquakes” by Tori Amos, guessed by Thud
We danced in graveyards with vampires ’til dawn
  5. “Harder Than the Fall” by Ruthie Foster
I was passing time between midnight trains and neon signs
  6. “Readymade” by Beck
    Canceled rations are running thin
  7. “Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season)” by the Byrds, guessed by Eric
A time of war, a time of peace
  8. “Lullaby of Birdland” by Sarah Vaughan
And there’s a weepy old willow
  9. “Let’s Get Out of this Country” by Camera Obscura
Everyone else thinks it’s the bee’s knees
  10. “Days” by the Kinks
Now I’m not frightened of this world, believe me

Hopefully we can do better than last week’s quite frankly pitiful peformance. Still plenty to guess there as well. As always, guess the lyric, win no prize. And, as always, good luck!
