The first rule of Fight Club is you don’t talk about Fight Club

This morning, on the train ride to Manhattan, a fight broke out at the front of the car. It started as a heated argument between two men over jabbed elbows or something stupid, but it quickly escalated into a fist-fight in the aisle. One of the men wound up with a nosebleed. We stopped at Jamaica and the conductor called the police, who took both men, one of their friends, a witness, and a woman who had either been accidentally hit or somehow else involved off the train. I crossed platforms with a few other people and caught another express train to New York, happy just to be away from it all. I was at work only a little later than expected, and the one or two drops of blood on my jacket seem to have washed off with the rain. There are worse commutes, obviously, but I never thought I’d miss the dull simplicity of mechancial troubles.

Now the darkness only stays the night-time
In the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good at arriving at the right time
It’s not always going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
– George Harrison, All Things Must Pass

My grandfather passed away last night, unexpectedly and a little suddenly. He was ninety-two. He’d led a good life. I feel like I ought to have more to say about this, and maybe later, with the funeral, I will. But right now, I’m coping with four, maybe five hours of sleep and not in much shape to think of anything at all.

Mail-to-Blogger is nothing if not unreliable. A post I made from work last Tuesday didn’t show up until today. It’s already played some havoc with 600 seconds (which would be an issue if anybody was writing there lately), publishing days late or not at all.

I mean, if something’s going to be broken, there is something to be said for it being consistently broken.

It’s been nearly two months since I posted any film-related comments to the sidebar. It’s not like I haven’t been watching any movies lately. (Heck, back in November, I joined a movie club.) I just never seemed to get around to it, and the movies just kept piling up.

Imagine if I attempted anything approaching a real review!
