I haven’t mentioned this here before, but I’ve recently joined the writing staff of a local planned student-run sketch comedy show called “Girls Night Out”. They intend to start production this fall, whereas we writers are to spend the summer cranking out sketches every couple of weeks and sending them in by e-mail. (Writing “staff”, then, is probably a bit of a misnomer; “contributing funnyman” might be more accurate, although we’ll certainly be involved in the process to some degree even after the summer months have passed.)
When I mentioned this in passing over IM to my friend Sharon about a week ago, she asked (not without some doubt, as I recall) whether I could be funny without also being scatalogical. (The miniscule amount of fame I’ve achieved, after all, has been largely due to a song about my penis.) I’d like to think I can be funny without resorting to raunch, but I’m always eager for outside opinion. So I ask: is this sketch funny? This is the sample I submitted when I first applied for the gig. (I’m also fond of both this and this, but I worry they border on the offensive or unfunny.)
Thoughts, or even potential sketch ideas, are welcome.
