I was a little surprised that none of last week’s lyrics were guessed, but maybe you’ll all have better luck with these ones:
- “Private Goes Public” by Suzanne Vega
Take your last kick now at any regime - “Whistling in the Dark” by They Might Be Giants, guessed by Betty
By hitting it with a rock, he said, though I am not unkind - “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” by Edith Piaf, guessed by Generik
Tout ça m’est bien égal - “Movin’ Right Along” from The Muppet Movie, guessed by Betty
With good friends, you can’t lose - “5:15” by the Who, guessed by Clayton
The ushers are sniffing, eau-de-cologning - “Mother and Child Reunion” by Paul Simon, guessed by Occupant
I never been laid so low - “Midnight Rambler” by the Rolling Stones, guessed by Generik
He don’t give a hoot of warning, wrapped up in a black cat cloak - “A Matter of Time” by the Leisure Society
She lacks in desire what I lack in direction - “Dead Man Walking (A Dream Like This)” by Mary Chapin Carpenter, guessed by Chris McLaren
Broken worlds will not be fixed - “Nights in White Satin” by the Moody Blues, guessed by Clayton
Letters I’ve written, never meaning to send
Good luck!
5 – 5:15 – The Who
10 – Nights in White Satin – The Moody Blues
2 “Whistling in the Dark” by They Might Be Giants
4. “Movin’ Right Along” by Kermit & Fozzie
That 9th one is from Dead Man Walking, the Mary Chapin Carpenter song, I think.
6. “Mother and Child Reunion” by Paul Simon
#7 is “Midnight Rambler,” by the Rolling Stones.
Is #3 “Michelle,” by the Beatles? That’s the only song with French lyrics that comes immediately to mind. Well, that and “Ça Plane Pour Moi” (“Ooo-WEEE-ooo-ooh!”), by Plastique Bertrand, but I don’t think that’s it.
No, though both are on my iPod — well, the latter is a Thee Headcoatees cover version — and kudos for at least recognizing the language the lyric is in! 😉
It’s not a particularly obscure French song, if that helps anyone.
Is it “La Vie en Rose,” by Edith Piaf?
No, but you’re so very close I’m tempted just to give it to you.
So it IS an Edith Piaf song? “Je ne Regrette pas Bien” (or whatever it’s called)? “Rien de Rien”? “Mon Legionnaire”? Dang. I have a couple dozen Edith Piaf songs on my iPod, I should just throw them all out there one by one until I get it right.
It’s “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.”
