Still skirting the fringe

I think I liked tonight’s episode of Fringe more than the premiere, mostly because it didn’t try to do as much. (And, unless I’m wrong, those annoying location title cards were gone.)

But that’s almost damning it with faint praise. While there continue to be elements about the show I like, I’m not sure they add up to something I’d want to watch consistently week to week.

  1. I enjoyed how the promos were touting it as the “best new show of the season so far”. And I guess hoping most people don’t realize that the majority of the new shows have not yet premiered…

I’ll give it a few more eps, but I’m already starting to get bored. Seems typical Kurtzman and Orci fare. As in, we don’t need to explain anything or present events as happening in a realistic or believable manner…. the story happens this way because we SAY it does. Suck on that, thinking man’s viewers!

  2. I’m not really familiar with their “typical fare.” Are you thinking Transformers specifically? Because it looks like there would be all sorts of reasons why that would suck.

I really don’t need it to be totally realistic or believable. My problem, though, is that it seems to need that. When the “fringe science” they’re showing is anything but.

Jackson and Noble are very good together, but boredom really is my main reaction to the show.

  3. I actually liked the premiere better than episode two, and I really didn’t think much of the premiere at all, so that’s saying something. I have to admit that I came into this with fairly low expectations, though. J. J. Abrams knows his hooks, but beyond that…
