I posted this little quiz to an online group this morning, and I thought it might be interesting to post it here, too. It’s basically “Real or Fake Geography.” Without cheating, without looking them up online, can you tell which of these countries are real and which are fictional?
- Tuvalu [Real]
- Elbonia [Fake]
- Nauru [Real]
- Javasu [Fake]
- Molvania [Fake]
- Moldova [Real]
- Pottsylvania [Fake]
- Adjikistan [Fake]
- Seychelles [Real]
- East Yemen [Fake]
- Khembalung [Fake]
- St. Kitts and Nevis [Real]
- Saint Georges Island [Fake]
- Uqbar [Fake]
- Kiribati [Real]
- Micronesia [Real]
- Zembla [Fake]
- Ishkebar [Fake]
- Anbuilla [Real]
- Burkina Faso [Real]
I’ll post the answers sometime tomorrow. The answers are now posted above. If you’re interested in learning more about these countries, you can go here for the fake ones and here for the real ones.
I always thought Micronesia was the name of a region, rather than an actual nation in itself. <*shrug*>
And the redirect page I got when trying to follow the World Fact Book link is a little disconcerting:
https://www.cia.gov/redirects/ciaredirect.html
I dunno…shouldn’t the CIA’s web pages be encrypted? Either way, I’ve fixed the link, so it should work now.
It’s not entirely clear if Micronesia is an independent nation or a region, but I think the fact that it is real makes up for that.
Hey, I happen to know the King of Zembla, and I’m guessing he might not like it that you called his country fake.
