  1. These are not the first I’ve purchased.

In my defense, they’ve so far proved to be very interesting commentaries.

On the other hand, there are not that many other extras available on the discs.

  2. If you buy a new copy for the commentary plus a new copy that you will never open (for collecting), then you know you’ve gone too far.

  3. No, I have never bought a second copy of anything simply to collect it. I have the rare item still in its packaging, but that’s about it. It’s not the collecting impulse — there’s a lot of Farscape merchandise I’m not remotely interested in, for instance — but I really like these commentaries. (The original tracks were a large part of what first sold me on the series, back in the day.)

But is one — maybe two — commentary track(s) really worth $20? That’s the question.

  4. Depends. I like hearing the bits of trivia around a film or a show that you get in commentaries.

I’ve been rewatching Buffy episodes to listen to Joss Whedon talk about them. It’s almost as good as hearing an author talk about what they were really thinking when they wrote something.
