Rainy Wednesday

A normal, if rainy, middle-of-the-week, middle-of-the-road kind of day. It was broken up only by a surprisingly really informative presentation about the higher education model in the United Kingdom. (Short version: it’s very different from the model here in the U.S., both from a student’s and a bookseller’s perspective.)

Meeting the day

I spent the day in meetings, or rather one very long meeting broken up for only about an hour and a half during lunch. We recently moved production of our books to one of the UK offices, and we were meeting with the new head of that group to discuss the new procedures and ask questions while she’s visiting New York. I actually had to skip a second, separate meeting/presentation — which I’ll hopefully catch in its encore on Thursday — because I was in the first one all day. It really is turning into a busy couple of weeks before the end of the year.

Monday Monday

Unless I’m very much mistaken, today was a Monday. It was a pretty typical Monday, in what promises to be a not entirely typical week. Several meetings and presentations, more than a couple holiday lunches or parties, and deadlines looming. I’m really feeling the end-of-the-year crunch at work more than in years past. It’s going to be work getting everything to a point where I feel confident in taking two weeks off for the holidays, but I’m really looking forward to those two weeks.

Friday

Getting to work early would be a whole lot easier if I didn’t have to wake up early to do it.

Not much happened today beyond my getting to work early — some co-workers accidentally broke a candy dish in the office; I went out for an okay meal with my parents this evening. So, in lieu of real content, here’s my November mix of songs:

  1. “Do You Remember Rock ‘N Roll Radio?” by the Ramones
  2. “The Circle Married the Line” by Feist
  3. “Me and Mr. Wolf” by the Real Tuesday Weld
  4. “Tumblebee” by Laura Veirs
  5. “Troubleman” by Electric Guest
  6. “Mad Mission” by Patty Griffin
  7. “Wicked Games” by Coeur de Pirate
  8. “Tragic Turn of Events/Move Pen Move” by Dan Mangan & Shane Koyczan
  9. “Love the Way You Walk Away” by Blitzen Trapper
  10. “Confession” by Richard Shindell
  11. “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” by Detroit Social Club
  12. “Where Will I Be” by Emmylou Harris
  13. “The Gulf of Araby” by Natalie Merchant
  14. “Let Me Lend My Shoulder” by Big Harp
  15. “On the Radio” by Regina Spektor

Looking forward to doing not a whole lot this weekend.

Ordinary day

If you looked “ordinary day” up in the dictionary, you’d find today, or at least a reasonable facsimile.

I’m busy at work, especially with the ever more reality of the end of the year approaching. Seriously, just this week, then two more, filled with meetings and deadlines and holiday parties.

Can there really only twelve more work days left in my year? It’s going to get a little crazy before then, I think.
