Sunday

So I got a haircut. And I read a little for Kaleidotrope. And I sent out another hundred-plus rejection e-mails for the same. And I did the Sunday crossword puzzle. And I read a little for my own enjoyment, while the power was out (again). And I went for a walk. And I took a nap. And while I didn’t see the new James Bond movie, last night I did watch the enjoyable enough Knight & Day, with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

And that was pretty much my weekend.

The power was only out for a few hours, while work crews — “mants,” as Heather might call them — were parked up the block. And now across the street, they have power back too. Finally, after two weeks.

I would, of course, be remiss if I didn’t end by briefly wishing everyone a happy Veteran’s Day, and offering my silent thanks to all those who fought (and fight) to protect our freedoms. Their sacrifice is most definitely appreciated.

The week that was is no more

Poor little tree. It’s definitely faced the worst of it these past two weeks, losing first one bough early in the hurricane, then another in the snow. It’s only been planted there maybe a couple of years. Hopefully it will survive.

I look at that tree and think, well, I don’t have it so bad. Which is good, because commuting to work has been pretty dreadful all week. I have some small hope that, with a number of people off for Veteran’s Day, Monday will be a little lighter. At the very least, I’m quite glad I won’t have to face the Long Island Railroad for at least a couple of days.

I plan to spend the weekend doing nothing more exciting than reading Kaleidotrope submissions and getting a much-needed haircut. I might go see the new James Bond movie; I haven’t decided. But mostly just enjoying not being on a commuter train.
