Let’s go to the video tape

I’m trying to clean out some old links, so here are some videos I’ve been saving:

No news is good news

Yahoo has this annoying habit of not linking to specific news stories — and often not even mentioning what the story is — in their news photos. So you get, for instance, something like this, which offers nothing beyond the very unhelpful caption of “A can of Coca-Cola is pictured in San Diego June 23, 2008.” Which raises questions but doesn’t answer any. Is it a story about Coca-Cola, San Diego, late June of 2008? It’s part of their “Odd News,” so it could be interesting.

Turns out it’s about the 2008 Ig Noble Awards, which in part revealed the effectiveness of Coca-Cola as a spermicide. It’s true, you will see “us_ignobels” if you parse that first link above, but wouldn’t it just be simpler to tell users why a photo is there?

September’s mix

And here are some not at all random songs:

  15. “Apocalypse Cow” by SeepeopleS
  16. “Boring” by the Pierces
  17. “Furr” by Blitzen Trapper

There’s no more Muxtape (which is not remotely surprising), but I’m still open to trades.
