Or more discomfort, really. I have at least a couple friends with back problems of their own, and they&#8217;ve had days when they couldn&#8217;t even get out of bed. Days when they&#8217;ve had to be taken to the hospital. So I&#8217;m a little uncomfortable calling what I experienced today real <i>pain<\/i>. This herniation has made some things difficult, but I&#8217;ve never been incapacitated &#8212; not even at my worst, the weekend in New Orleans where I think I sustained the major injury that caused this. I&#8217;m up and about, I&#8217;m not keeling over with pain. But it certainly wasn&#8217;t a lot of fun today, with the disc (L5-S1) pressing in on inappropriate nerves all day long. I&#8217;m hoping that icing it and stretching will help relieve my symptoms (or at least push them back to where they were on Monday), but if not &#8212; or even if &#8212; I may go back for a consultation with my spine doctor.<\/p>\n<p>As for now, ice and stretching, and we&#8217;ll see how much that helps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another rainy day in New York, with a lot more of the same &#8212; though unfortunately broken up by a whole heck of a lot of back pain.
