[<a href=\"http:\/\/ellen-datlow.livejournal.com\/\" title=\"Ellen Datlow\">via<\/a>]<\/li>\n<li>There was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schneier.com\/blog\/archives\/2010\/02\/all_subversive.html\">a lot of talk<\/a> recently about a new law in South Carolina that would require &#8220;subversive&#8221; organizations <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scstatehouse.gov\/code\/t23c029.htm\">to register with the state<\/a>. This, of course, put me in mind of a line from <i>Good Morning, Vietnam<\/i>: &#8220;Well, we walk up to someone and say, &#8216;Are you the enemy?&#8217; And, if they say yes, then we shoot them.&#8221; Turns out, <a href=\"http:\/\/volokh.com\/2010\/02\/10\/did-south-carolina-pass-a-subversive-activities-registration-act-last-year\/\">it isn&#8217;t exactly true<\/a>. Or, rather, the law&#8217;s been on the books for about sixty years. There&#8217;s actually a bill before the SC legislature to repeal it. So, you know, that&#8217;s good.
