I have to admit, this sounded like a hoax or urban legend when I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aroundglobe.net\/2009\/12\/ukrainian-student-killed-by-exploding.html\">first read about it<\/a>, but it seems distrubingly legit. At least, I didn&#8217;t find anything discounting the story <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snopes.com\/\">at Snopes<\/a>. [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.warrenellis.com\/\" title=\"Warren Ellis\">via<\/a>]<\/li>\n<li>Well this is disappointing and surprising: the <a href=\"http:\/\/irosf.com\/index.qsml\">Internet Review of Science Fiction<\/a> is closing <a href=\"http:\/\/sfscope.com\/2009\/12\/impending-closure-of-the-inter.html?utm_source=feedburner&#038;utm_medium=feed&#038;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+sfscope+(SFScope)\">after its February issue<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.avclub.com\/articles\/grant-morrison,30678\/?utm_medium=RSS&#038;utm_campaign=feeds&#038;utm_source=channel_books\">Grant Morrison<\/a> on what appeals to him about comics as a storytelling medium:<br \/>\n<blockquote><p><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\">The essentially magical qualities of inert words and ink pictures working together with reader consciousness to create a holographic Sensurround emotional experience. What else?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<p><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<li>I&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsfromme.com\/archives\/2010_01_02.html#018286\">seen some talk<\/a> about how 2010 is the <i>real<\/i> end of the past decade &#8212; that the decade is still going on, that is &#8212; since there was never a Year Zero. I think this is maybe true on a very pedantic, technical level, but I also think it&#8217;s a battle that was lost two thousand years ago, in Year Ten. When people talk about the last decade, they&#8217;re including 2000-2001, not miscounting. As <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/2009\/12\/31\/a-little-decadence\/\">Bad Astronomy points out<\/a> [<a href=\"http:\/\/lustforlunch.com\/\" title=\"GersonK\">via<\/a>], the argument that 2010 <i>isn&#8217;t<\/i> the start of a new decade suggests that &#8220;people [are] confused on how we delineate time.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>And finally, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/hicksdesign\/sets\/72157617827366798\/\">Daniel&#8217;s Daily Monster<\/a>:<br \/>\n<blockquote><p><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\">Every week day (starting from 7th May 2009) I draw a little monster card to go in my son&#8217;s lunchbox.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\">These are just really delightful.
