Among others, <a href=\"http:\/\/dead.atyourage.com\/outlived\">I have outlived<\/a> &#8220;Grigori Nelyubov by more than a month. He was an a skilled pilot and Soviet cosmonaut who was expelled for drunkenness. He died of suicide by stepping in front of a train on February 18, 1966&#8230;&#8221; Good to know. [<a href=\"http:\/\/gerrycanavan.blogspot.com\/\" title=\"Gerry Canavan\">via<\/a>]<\/li>\n<p><\/font> <font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana\"><\/p>\n<li>Of course, if you went by <a href=\"http:\/\/writersalmanac.publicradio.org\/index.php?date=2009\/03\/26\">today&#8217;s Writer&#8217;s Almanac<\/a>, you might assume nobody but Joseph Campbell had been born today. I don&#8217;t know why, but I&#8217;m always intrigued when Keillor devotes the entire daily program to one single person. Campbell&#8217;s influence is arguably still deep enough to warrant it &#8212; though I&#8217;ve never read anything by him or seen the Bill Moyers PBS specials. Does anyone recommend them?<\/li>\n<p><\/font> <font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana\"><\/p>\n<li>Speaking of growing up\/not growing up: every time I watch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/trailers\/wb\/wherethewildthingsare\/\">this trailer<\/a> for <em>Where the Wild Things Are<\/em>, all I want to do is watch it again. I have no particular attachment to Maurice Sendak&#8217;s original book &#8212; I&#8217;m not even sure I&#8217;ve ever read it &#8212; but the movie looks incredible. (<a href=\"http:\/\/community.livejournal.com\/theinferior4\/460922.html\">Lucius T. Sheppard doesn&#8217;t think so<\/a>, but that&#8217;s possibly a good sign. Seriously, his curmudgeonly scorn for all things pop cultural is getting rather tired.) [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.m14m.net\/lesingesavant\/bloglet.php\" title=\"Remi's Bloglet\">via<\/a>]<\/li>\n<p><\/font> <font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana\"><\/p>\n<li>My favorite story of the day? Easily a toss-up between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/WORLD\/asiapcf\/9810\/09\/fringe\/australia.crocs\/\">this story<\/a> of an Australian coach who uses a live crocodile to encourage speedy swimmers &#8212; or at least did back in 1998. I couldn&#8217;t find anything more recent than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/australiaandthepacific\/australia\/1335730\/Q-How-do-you-train-a-young-Australian-to-swim-faster-A-Put-a-crocodile-in-the-pool.html\">this 2001 <em>Telegraph<\/em> article<\/a>, which suggests it was no fun for the crocodile either &#8212; and <a href=\"http:\/\/uk.news.yahoo.com\/18\/20090325\/twl-egypt-tries-to-hang-up-on-killer-sms-3cd7efd.html\">this story<\/a> about the Egyptian government being forced to dispel rumors that a text message can kill anybody who receives it. At least, they <em>say<\/em> they&#8217;re only rumors&#8230; [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cynical-C.com\/\" title=\"Cynical-C\">via<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.warrenellis.com\/\" title=\"Warren Ellis\">via<\/a>]<\/li>\n<p><\/font> <font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana\"><\/p>\n<li>My least favorite? Easily <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/mg20127001.300-space-storm-alert-90-seconds-from-catastrophe.html?full=true\">this story<\/a> about a massive &#8220;space storm&#8221; that could any day now wipe out civilization as we know it. I think I&#8217;m going to go back to thinking happy birthday thoughts.
