I&#8217;m not sure I&#8217;d call that <i>enjoyable<\/i>, although it was a pretty intense way to kick off the new year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.avclub.com\/content\/node\/80490\">Scott Tobias calls it<\/a> &#8220;mostly <i>psychological<\/i> torture porn&#8221; &#8212; and that&#8217;s mostly admiringly &#8212; whereas <a href=\"http:\/\/rogerebert.suntimes.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20080529\/REVIEWS\/805290303\/1023\">Roger Ebert suggests<\/a> that the movie &#8220;does what it sets out to do. I&#8217;m not sure that it earns the right to do it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m somewhere in the middle. I accept that I can admire a film and find it effective, while still not really liking it, and while wishing it had something more to offer. <i>The Strangers<\/i> really doesn&#8217;t have more to offer &#8212; although its subdued opening act and nuanced direction suggest that its director&#8217;s next film just might.<\/p>\n<p>Although, given that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1084944\/\">his next project<\/a> is a ghost story by the writer of the Jim Carrey horror movie <i>The Number 23<\/i>&#8230; At least he didn&#8217;t sign on for the planned <i>The Strangers 2<\/i>.<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just finished watching The Strangers.
