Those are some harsh words.<\/li>\n<li>Applying every Photoshop filter, in order, to an image <a href=\"http:\/\/www.verysmallarray.com\/?p=313\">yields some interesting results<\/a>. But I&#8217;m more amused by some of the Photoshop geeks in the comments who seem to recognize at a glance specific filters and wonder if some were skipped or duplicated.<\/li>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<li>I am so over <a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/weblogsinc\/tvsquad\/~3\/390888817\/\">Gordon Ramsay<\/a>.<\/li>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<li>I have a great fondness for <em>I Claudius<\/em> (and an abiding suspicion of all remakes), but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/hr\/content_display\/television\/news\/e3i6e1ea93903c4b3a3d377eba19b9ab13a\">this remake<\/a> seems especially unnecessary. How do you take what was a 13-hour miniseries and tell the same story in only two or three hours? Then again, the idea was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unreality.net\/weblog\/?p=2708\">floated last year<\/a>, too, with a different director attached, so it&#8217;s altogether possible it will never happen. (It <em>has<\/em> been tried as a feature film <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sensesofcinema.com\/contents\/cteq\/05\/35\/epic_that_never_was.html\">before<\/a>&#8230;)<\/li>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cynical-c.com\/?p=11525\">Newspaper Uses Twitter to Microblog 3 Year Old&#8217;s Funeral<\/a> sounds like a rejected <em>Onion<\/em> headline. Sadly, no. I&#8217;m sure there are many valid uses for social networking sites like Twitter as journalism tools, but this really doesn&#8217;t seem like the place to start.<\/li>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<li>Roger Ebert on why he gives movies &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.suntimes.com\/ebert\/2008\/09\/you_give_out_too_many_stars.html\">too many stars<\/a>.&#8221;  It&#8217;s an honest and considered response. I can usually understand Ebert&#8217;s ratings even when I don&#8217;t agree with them. (I think <em>Congo<\/em> is a terrible movie, for instance, but I totally see what motivated Ebert <a href=\"http:\/\/rogerebert.suntimes.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/19950609\/REVIEWS\/506090301\/1023\">to give it three stars<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<li>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publishersmarketplace.com\/\">Publishers Lunch<\/a>, I learn that &#8220;Nicholas Sparks&#8217;s new novel, for publication in September 2009, is being written simultaneously with the author&#8217;s own adaptation of that story as a starring film vehicle for Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus.&#8221; Leaving aside whatever you might think of either Sparks or Cyrus &#8212; I&#8217;m pretty uninterested on either count &#8212; there&#8217;s something weird about adapting your own novel for the screen <em>as you write it<\/em>.<\/li>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<li>Apparently, my last name <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicprofiler.org\/worldnames\/\">is most common<\/a> in New Zealand? I&#8217;ve never been, but that just doesn&#8217;t seem right. Then again, I tried &#8220;Coopersmith,&#8221; for which my last name is <em>all the time<\/em> mistaken, and that&#8217;s overwhelmingly in the U.S. and Canada.<\/li>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<li>The Church of England to Charles Darwin: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/newstopics\/religion\/2910447\/Charles-Darwin-to-receive-apology-from-the-Church-of-England-for-rejecting-evolution.html\">Dude, our bad<\/a>. Nobody tell Sarah Palin, or she might want to invade the U.K. (Whose BBC America you can actually see in Alaska!)<\/li>\n<p><\/font><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<li>In her defense, Sarah Palin probably didn&#8217;t <em>know<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/nielsenhayden.com\/makinglight\/archives\/010578.html\">she was quoting an avowed anti-Semite<\/a> in her vice presidential acceptance speech. But then again, there&#8217;s not a <em>lot<\/em> Sarah Palin does seem to know.
