And yet it&#8217;s also very engrossing, and the three leads\u2014particularly Stewart and Binoche\u2014really shine.<\/li>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<li>Things escalate <em>very<\/em> quickly to the diabolic in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0075666\/\">Alucarda<\/a>, which I&#8217;m not sure is entirely successful\u2014and definitely shows its budget as a &#8217;70s Mexican horror movie\u2014but it has such an interesting, frequently unsettling look.<\/li>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<li>Not to put too fine a point on it, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0415127\/\">The Man from London<\/a> is awful, near-unwatchable\u2014and not <em>just<\/em> because it&#8217;s excruciatingly long or strangely dubbed, but because it hardly even qualifies as a film. It&#8217;s more a collection of still images occasionally interspersed with a slow sludge of movement or unengaging dialogue. Yet there&#8217;s a lot about the movie that is pretty terrific, including an Oscar-nominated performance by Hume Cronyn.<\/li>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0381348\/\">The Place Promised in Our Early Days<\/a> has some lovely animated visuals, but the complicated timelines and alternate histories make it a little hard to follow.<\/li>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<li>Charlotte Rampling is just so good, in such subtle ways, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt3544082\/\">45 Years<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I also re-watched a couple of movies: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I didn&#8217;t like <a href=\u201dhttps:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0113243\/\u201d>Hackers<\/a> in 1995, and if I&#8217;ve grown to appreciate it more by even the smallest measure since then, that&#8217;s only because it seems even more ridiculous, and you almost have to laugh at that.<\/li>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<li>I also didn&#8217;t love my re-visit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0098073\">Penn &#038; Teller Get Killed<\/a>, which has a few good moments, mostly at the beginning at end, but doesn&#8217;t hold together as a narrative or as a showcase for the duo.
